Edward Linley Sambourne -- 1 augustus 1887

Edward Linley Sambourne (1844-1910) was een Britse cartoonist (voor Punch), tekenaar en fotograaf. Zijn dagboeken zijn te lezen op de site van 18 Stafford Terrace, ooit het huis waar Sambourne woonde.

Monday August 1
Lovely day. Sailed with Con, Effie, Tabs, Ham & self over to Cowes. 1st look at Cowes. Photod yacht etc etc. Landed. Bought lunch. Effie ill all day. Roughish home. Threw sea water over Effie. Back at 7.50. Rowed by two wretched boys. Better dinner. Discussion about Kings etc. Bed 11.0pm.

Tuesday August 2
In morning went with dear Roy & Hamilton to Cowes. Landed after being towed. Bought loaf etc etc. Took boat & went on board Britannia. Back in sea. Pinkum lay out a good way. Lunch. Such a lot. Roy good. Home 3.30. Got in mud. On to play Lawn Tennis with Bradshaws. Con Effie & the baby left. Good game. Quiet dinner. Ju lost. Great call for Ju. Bed 11.30.

Wednesday August 3
Last day at The Hook. Photod Roy & Globe. Went in boat with Tabs, Hamilton & Roy. On board the 'Sheila' owned by late Mr Percival. Sad death at 28. Lobster crates. Back. Packed. Caught 2.25 train. Called Garrick. After rattling good dinner at Grand Hotel. Called on Adams about bag. Thunderstorm at Grand Hotel. Subscription got up for Danvers. Home with Guthrie.

Thursday August 4
Fine morning. Worked on photo of self as Boulanger. Roy naughty. Spoilt plate. Midge called. To dine with Tenniel. Dined with Tenniel. Met Arthur à Beckett & Pilleau. Drove straight home.
